Roof Related Insurance Claim Tips
Always have your roof inspected by a professional roofing contractorbefore filing your claim unless you are certain you have damage.
Never sign anything with a contractor until you have all the information. Many contractors use this technique to lock you into working with them - before you even know if you have an approved claim. We will never ask for contingencies or signed contracts until your claim has been approved and you are ready to proceed. We beleive you should always choose the contractor you feel most comfortable with - not the one pressuring you the most.
Having a roofer present for your insurance inspectionhelps ensure your claim gets processed smoothly. We are happy to offer FREE representation.
Claims should be filed within12 months of the recorded incident.
A single hail incident can take10+ years off the life of your roof
Many homeownersdon't realize they have damagebecause hail damage typically can't be seen from the ground or they are not trained on what to look for.
Selling your home? A home inspection that gets flagged for potential hail damage can cause closing delays.
Never hire an out of state contractor. Storm chasers are only concerned about getting in and out. Putting money in their pocket and leaving you with headaches down the road (leaks, incomplete or poor quality work, etc)
When storms come through, your home’s exterior is at risk of damage. If this occurs, you can be left wondering who to call to have your damage evaluated and work completed. Storm chasers flood the area looking to take advantage of the opportunity, leaving you with low quality work that doesn’t last.
When storms come, they also bring a wave of out of town roofers. There are many risks with hiring these contractors, and we’ve heard many heart breaking stories. We strongly recommend contacting with a local company for your roof replacement. Not sure you’ve been dealing with an ethical and reputable company? We’d love the opportunity to give you an honest assessment.

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. If you have any questions that are not answered here, please reach out! We’d love to be of assistance.
Can I replace my roof in winter? Is it better to wait until spring?
Absolutely!* — As long as you hire a trained winter roofing installer. Our foreman/owner has been installing roofs in Wisconsin winter for over 20 years. He knows what roof products are able to be used in winter to accomplish this successfully. We’ve never experienced any issues, or decreased long term performance. Additionally, all of our roofs are backed by the same labor and material guarantees and warranties regardless of install temperature!
How long do roofs last?
There are too many variables to be able to give a clear answer, but on average, in Wisconsin, most older shingles should last roughly 20-25 years if properly installed and not impacted by storms. Newer shingles, however, carry limited lifetime warranties. This means, as long as you own that home, you should never need another roof.
What are the most common reasons for a new roof?
1. Roof Leaks – We offer roof repairs as well as roof replacement because often times, a roof’s life can be prolonged with repairs. We’ll be honest with you. While many contractors will sell you a new roof, if we can fix the issue and delay that replacement we will absolutely offer that first!
2. Storm Damage – Hail Damage, Wind Damage, Tornados and other weather events all can damage your roof’s integrity.
3. Age – Older shingles last 20-25 years. New shingles offer you a limited LIFETIME warranty. If you’re past the 25 year mark, it’s definitely time to be budgeting for that new roof!
My Roof Is Leaking -- Do I need a new roof?
We’re happy to give honest evaluations. Repairs are typically significantly cheaper in the short term. Occassionaly, it can be more cost effective to replace the roof. We are happy to provide both options so you can make the best decision for you and your home.
How do I know I have hail damage?
A qualified roof contractor should inspect your home if you have been impacted by recent hail. This damage typically cannot be seen from the ground, and without proper training it is often difficult to decipher hail damage from other potential shingle defects.
